My path to home care is a bit unconventional. I began my career in asset management, working for several large financial institutions over the course of 15 years. Although I rapidly moved up the ranks, the financial services industry often left me feeling unfulfilled. It became evident that it was time for a change.

rob calarco profile pictureIn my personal life, I witnessed the emotional and financial stress that caring for loved ones can place on a family. My wife’s grandmother lived well into her 90’s. Although she mentally remained sharp, we watched her ability to perform routine daily tasks deteriorate slowly over several years. To complicate things further, my wife’s uncle, who resided in the same house, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. When we visited them, we often didn’t know what to expect on the other side of the door as they slowly slipped away. A caregiver was hired for the evenings at first, and later increased to full time to help alleviate some of the stress. One day, after providing several months of care, the caregiver disappeared without notice. Our family was devastated.

After doing some research, I discovered that my experience was not an isolated event. Many others were entrusting the care of their loved ones to individuals and agencies, only to be frustrated and disappointed by unprofessional and unreliable conduct. There had to be a better way.

The events above lead me to establish Brookside Home Care Inc. My vision was simple – deliver a premium service with the same level of professionalism demanded by my former colleagues, while at the same time, provide the compassion, caring and understanding that we needed during our family’s ordeal. We’ve taken several steps to achieve this goal and differentiate ourselves from the competition….

  1. We embraced state-of-the art technology to provide loved one’s with real time updates of the activities performed by our caregivers.
  2. We implemented the most stringent caregiver screening and training processes which include cognitive, behavioral and personality testing, an extensive background check and over 15 hrs of training.
  3. We provide updated educational resources relating to the changing roles, responsibilities and challenges surrounding the care of our elderly loved ones.
  4. We’re on-call 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week to answer all questions and deal with any unforeseen issues that may arise.
